Zwickau

A Saxony city on the Mulde, an early centre of German car manufacturing that produced one of East Germany's best-known small cars under socialism, a legacy that still shapes its identity even though the factories that carried it have mostly closed since reunification. The population has shrunk sharply since then, leaving one of the more affordable, if economically fragile, housing markets in eastern Germany.
