Privacy notice

Last changed: 2026-09-10. This website is a calculator. It needs no account, uses no advertising or analytics tools, and does its arithmetic in your browser. What it does process is listed here in full.

2. Hosting, Cloudflare and server logs
The site runs on a rented virtual server in Berlin, on hardware a private individual operates. In front of it stands Cloudflare, Inc. as proxy and DNS: every request to the site passes through Cloudflare first, which filters it against attacks and passes it on to the server. Cloudflare thereby receives your IP address and the usual connection data. Seat: San Francisco, USA; processing for EU users rests on Cloudflare's data processing addendum with the EU standard contractual clauses. Details are in Cloudflare's privacy policy (https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/).
Opening a page technically produces what your browser sends: IP address, date and time, the address requested, the amount of data transferred, browser type and version, operating system and the page you came from (referrer). The application itself writes no access log. Cloudflare and the reverse proxy on the server hold such data briefly for security and troubleshooting; it is not combined with other data and not analysed.
The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (a legitimate interest in stable operation protected against attacks).
3. Cookies and local storage
The site sets four cookies that store nothing but your settings: language, currency, amount scale and the width of the sidebar (fc_locale, fc_currency, fc_scale, fc_sidebar). They carry no identifier by which you could be recognised, are not passed to anyone, and expire after a year.
What you type into the calculators (for instance the salary you last calculated, or the figures for a home purchase) is kept in your browser's local storage, so it is still there on your next visit and one calculator can pick up another's result. This data never leaves your browser.
Both are technically required for the service you are expressly using (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG), so no consent is needed and there is no cookie banner. You can delete cookies and local storage at any time in your browser's settings.
4. PDF reports
When you generate a report as a PDF, the inputs it needs are sent to the server, placed into the document and returned to you at once. The server stores neither the inputs nor the document. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (providing the function you requested).
5. Third-party content
The photographs on the city pages are loaded straight from the servers of Wikimedia Commons (Wikimedia Foundation Inc., San Francisco, USA). Wikimedia thereby receives your IP address and the usual browser data. Wikimedia states that it keeps IP addresses only briefly; details are in the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy (https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Privacy_policy). The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (a legitimate interest in presenting the cities vividly).
Fonts are served from this site's own server, not from Google. No other third-party content is embedded. The official data behind the calculators is fetched by the server itself; your browser does not talk to the data sources.
The site can be installed as an app. Your browser then keeps the site's program files locally so they load faster and without a connection. No data is transmitted in the process.
6. No analytics, no advertising
There is no audience measurement, no tracking and no advertising. Should that change, this notice will be updated beforehand and, where the law requires it, your consent asked for.
7. Contact by e-mail
If you write to me I process what you send in order to reply (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, or (b) for contractual matters). Messages are deleted once the matter is settled and no retention duty applies.
8. Your rights
You have the right to access the data concerning you (Art. 15 GDPR), to rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Write to the e-mail address above.
You may also complain to a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The one responsible for me is: Der Hessische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit, https://datenschutz.hessen.de.
