Witten

A Ruhr city on the Ruhr river itself, on the region's greener southern edge, once built on coal and steel like its neighbours but with an unusually large share of its area left as forest and parkland. A private university and smaller manufacturing firms have taken over from the closed mines, leaving an economy more modest and less industrial than the Ruhr cities further north.
