Tübingen

A Baden-Württemberg university city on the Neckar whose old town, largely spared wartime bombing, climbs a hillside of half-timbered houses down to the riverbank, a townscape that has made it one of Germany's most visited small cities. The economy runs on the university, a cluster of biotechnology and pharmaceutical firms that grew out of its research, and a comparatively small footprint of traditional industry.
