Oldenburg

A north-western Lower Saxony city, once capital of its own grand duchy, whose broad old town and administrative buildings still reflect that former independence. Trade, insurance and public administration carry the economy today, together with a fast-growing university and a role as a market town for the surrounding agricultural region.
