Leverkusen

A Rhineland city between Cologne and Düsseldorf built almost entirely by one company, the pharmaceutical and chemical group Bayer, whose main works and headquarters still anchor the local economy and give the city its name recognition abroad, not least through its football club. Beyond Bayer the economy stays close to chemicals and life sciences, with comparatively little else to diversify it.
