Konstanz

A Baden-Württemberg city on Lake Constance right at the Swiss border, its well-preserved medieval old town spared wartime bombing because the blackout there was deliberately kept lit to look Swiss from the air. Tourism around the lake, a university and cross-border shopping and commuting with Switzerland carry one of the more prosperous economies of its size in Germany.
