A hill city at the edge of the Sauerland, part of a smaller metalworking cluster alongside a nearby town that predates the Ruhr's coal industry, historically known for wire and needle manufacturing. The surrounding wooded hills give it a more rural, small-town character than its position near the Ruhr might suggest, with a large limestone cave system nearby drawing local tourism.
